January 2008 - www.TruButRFly.com was launched by Susan Wacht, co-owner of the Canton Barn. TruButRFly provides creative custom graphic design works.


January 2, 2008 - Co-owners, Richard Wacht and Susan Wacht appeared on Better Connecticut, a WFSB Channel 3 morning television program. Video feeds are on the WFSB Better Connecticut website.


December 2007 - The long awaited "Collectable, Delectable Pies! The Original Canton Barn Pie Book" photographed and written by Susan Wacht is now available for online purchase. The link for a preview and/or purchase can be found on the Canton Barn's Home page.


August 18, 2006 - In The Hartford Courant's At Home Section: The Auction Action, journalist MaryEllen Fillo writes: ... the Canton Barn is "billed as one of the last true auction houses in the state."

November 2005 - The Boston Globe - Life at Home section: "There's profit at auction, if you're careful"  Freelance writer, Debbie Hagan pens:

    "Auctioneer Richard Wacht is a wiry, white-haired man who may prance across his stage in cowboy boots, but he's known to speak in plain English in his weekly auctions, not lightning-speed mumbo jumbo more commonly identified with his trade."

 

October 2005 - Connecticut Life - Lifestyles section: "Pillows, pies and purchases . . .On Saturday night it's the antiques auction at the Canton Barn"  Writer Betsy Witteman says " . . . visitors will be entertained.


Local writer and photographer, Jay Nowakowski recently attended an auction and wrote this for the November 2004 edition of Farmington Valley Post - The Canton Barn - antiques, bargains and a fun night out - "The Canton Barn may not be much to look at from the outside, but inside it bustles with an ever-changing offering of antiques and collectibles, some at the best bargain prices around. The Barn is just that, a quintessential circa 1820 barn tucked away in a corner of Canton that has yet to suffer the homogenizing effects of redevelopment."


Nov/Dec 2004 - Country Discoveries Magazine: In "Vintage New England" an article written by Irene Jeruss, she states "Both the ordinary and the extr-ordinary hit the auction block, but it's not just for dealers or antiques buffs. Lots of folks come for the rapid-fire auction patter or to buy a slice of home-baked pie. A word to the wise: Reserve a piece of the pie early, as I learned too late on my first visit!"


Hartford Magazine's July 2004 edition included a story on the Canton Barn by Channel 3's weatherman, Scot Haney in his column Every Town Has A Story - Scot pens that "While the value of antiques is based on supply and demand, Richard Wacht's dry sense of humor, biting wit and unstumpable knowledge will always make him priceless."


In the July/August 2004 - AAA Journeys Travel & Lifestyle Magazine, Farmington Valley Julie Newsum sums up a night at the auction when she writes . ..
"Save Saturday night for the Canton Barn where you'll be fed, entertained and, luck willing, head home with a bargain."


For Norman Living - Connecticut - Vacation Variety in a Compact Container, July 2004, travel writer Elaine Warner had this to say: "You may not find a missing masterpiece but you're sure to find something you like at the Canton Barn's 7:30 Saturday night auctions. . . . . Richard's knowledge and reputation for absolute honesty, Susan's pies, and interesting items keep the customers coming."


In the 2004 - Fodor's Where to Weekend around Boston: The Farmington Valley by Patricia Earnest writes "Stake out your chair of choice and then hurry to reserve your hot dog or hamburg and leave room for a delicious slice of fresh, home-baked pie in the widest selection you are likely to find anywhere."

Canton Barn
Richard Wacht performs at the Canton Barn every Saturday, even in snowstorms. "I have a dry, droll sense of humor," says Wacht in his understated Yankee fashion. Born on the homestead where the barn stands, Wacht draws 350 curiosity seekers and antiques lovers for a standing date at his auction house. You'll be entertained and learn buckets as Wacht auctioneers 200 items in an average 34 seconds per item. Preview items on the Web site and come at 5 p.m. to inspect collectibles on the block at 7:30 p.m. Even if you are afraid to bid, don't hesitate to try the homemade pie dished out in the back of this authentic hay barn.


The Canton Barn was featured in a 4-page story penned by Mary Medland and photographed by Susan Wacht (co-owner of the Canton Barn and owner of GeminEye Images) in the Summer/Fall '03 premier test-market magazine issue of Simple Livin' produced by The Boyd's Collection Ltd.

In the article, Mary writes: "Saturdays tend to be an evening of pure entertainment and showmanship, great buys, and an excellent opportunity to sample Susan's homemade pies . . . . ."


Arnold Miller writing for Ohio's, The Chronicle-Telegram Travel section in June 2003 exclaims "Talk about Americana! You'll find a large slice of it every Saturday in Canton, Ct. If you're looking for a different night out, this is the place to go!"


In Pathfinder's Travel (www.pathfinderstravel.com) (April 2003), Joseph Blake writes, "If you've never attended an auction in a barn, then the Canton Barn Auction is a genuine treat." And adds it has an "old fashioned atmosphere that is both congenial and exclusive."

The Antique Trader (April 2003) Actioneer Profile included the following from writer Rogayle Franklin: "Time changes most venues. Yet, at Canton Barn Auction in Canton, CT, its owners successfully continue the practices started more than half a century ago by Richard Wacht's parents."

In Rudy Maxa's Travelling in Style for Less (Feb, 2003), travel writer Ruth Hill pegs the Canton Barn in Canton, Connecticut as a "secret place" and "a slice of New England heritage."

For The Golden Times (Feb. 2003), writer Ann Augunas had this to say about the Canton Barn: "This popular event is always packed with people that come from all over, some just for the fun and the hot dogs, burgers and homemade pies."

In Maryland's The Daily Record "Off the Record" column (Nov. 2002), travel writer Mary Medland states "Far more fun than dinner and a movie, is a Saturday night at the Canton Barn."
